{graduating class} About Allen ISD

The Allen Independent School District serves the rapidly growing city of Allen, Texas, a suburban community located 23 miles north of Dallas. Student enrollment has more than doubled since 1989, bringing the current number of students to approximately 18,000 in grades K-12. Students attend one of 15 elementary schools, three middle schools, one freshman center and one high school.

Cheatham Elementary School is scheduled to open in August 2010 in west Allen.

Enrollment Increases

Allen ISD enrollment has grown steadily since the early 1990's. The district is currently growing at a rate of approximately 4%. Regardless of enrollment increases, Allen ISD is committed to maintaining acceptable student-to-staff ratios and class sizes through the hiring of additional staff or the distribution of students to "sister" campuses if necessary.

Elementary students enrolling in Allen ISD for the first time may be assigned to a school outside of their attendance area if no space exists in their grade level.

Texas State Accountability Ratings

Fifteen Allen ISD campuses were rated as Exemplary and four earned a Recognized rating under the accountability standards set by the Texas Education Agency. The ratings are determined by the Spring 2009 TAKS results.

The campus and school district ratings are based on performance by all students and in all sub-populations identified by the state. These groups include African American, Hispanic, White and Economically Disadvantaged. Therefore a school can score at an Exemplary level as a whole, but if one of the sub-population groups score below that level, the rating drops down. The ratings are based upon three components: TAKS scores, Completion Rate and Dropout Rate.
