| Classroom Guidance Classroom guidance lessons are provided in each class every other week. The lessons cover getting along with others, bullying, anger, good character, personal safety, and much more. Some of the curricula we use are the W.H.O. Program, Character Counts, and Second Step. Individual Counseling I am available to counsel with individual students who may need to talk about concerns or difficulties in their lives, either at home or at school, that may be interfering with their school success. Parental consent forms are required, and I take referrals from teachers, parents, or the individual student him or herself. Group Counseling Small Group Counseling is also available to all students with parent permission. The small group setting is very special due to the unique nature of the group experience. One type of small group offered is Kids Connection which helps students learn more about themselves and how to make healthy choices. Another group is Student Success Skills which helps students be more successful in school. Group size is limited and most groups meet weekly for a minimum of 8 weeks. Referrals As a school counselor I am limited in the amount of individual and group counseling services I can provide. Often families and students can benefit from outside counseling services. There are many services available in our community. I can assist parents or teachers in finding a professional to assist with issues not related to school success or with areas not in my expertise. Please feel free to call me for a list of local counselors, support groups and other services. Child Parent Relationship Training (CPR-T) This is a "Psycho-Educational" class for parents of children 10 years old and younger. The class focuses on how to strengthen your relationship with your child through play. While the class is educational, it is also therapeutic. During the course of the class, which lasts 10 weeks, you will not only learn a whole new way of relating to your children, but you will also have a chance to share your parenting joys, concerns, successes and struggles with other parents who have had similar experiences. For more information about this class, please call or email Sandy Stillo, Boyd Elementary Counselor. |
