Your child will be asked to make at least three words with each word ‘chunk’(word family). A table of letters will be sent home on Monday to practice making additional words. Students should cut apart the letters on the table to make new words with each word family. On Friday, the first graders will write three words from each chunk on the spelling assessment; one word dictated by the teacher, and two words that students choose to write. They will also be responsible for knowing how to spell the ‘words to know’. A dictation sentence will be given using words containing the ‘chunks’ and the ‘words to know’ we have studied during the week.
