Mrs. Bartolome’s Kindergarten Policies and Procedures

Cheatham Elementary

2011-2012

Red Folders:

Each child will bring home a red folder daily.  It will contain your child’s behavior chart and any notes or other important information from your child’s teacher. There will be a small oval for each day that will be colored one of 4 colors.  There will be a key at the bottom of the daily folder page to explain the color codes.  The codes are as follows:

Green= good day

Yellow= consequence was given/ loss of privilege

Orange= parent contacted/loss of privilege

Red=   Principal

If your child has any color other than green you will also get a written explanation as to what occurred. Please check this folder daily.  All written communication must be sent in the red folder.

Backpacks:

Each child will need a backpack to bring to and from school everyday.  Be sure your child’s name is on the backpack.  Please check the backpack daily.  Toys are not to be brought to school or kept in backpacks.  It is very helpful if you place an extra set of clothes including undies in the backpack for those unexpected accidents.

Snack:

Each child may bring a snack for themselves daily. Due to state nutrition laws, students/teachers cannot provide a snack to others.  Please put your child’s snack in a separate container from their lunch.  Be sure to choose something healthy.  A sports type water bottle is acceptable. Please be sure to only fill with water, and use a leak/spill proof container.

Classroom Mascot:

Our class will have its own classroom “mascot.” Each child will have the opportunity to bring our mascot with him/her for the weekend.  Every Friday, the classroom mascot will go home with a child.  It will arrive in its own bag along with a binder.  On Sunday night, parents (or another adult) should write in the notebook about the weekend adventures.  Please include your child as you write and recall the fun weekend events.  Entries should be from the perspective of the classroom animal.  The first entry has been written for you, so that you have an idea of how this is to be done.

Star of the Week:

Each child will be assigned a week to be our classroom “star.”  The star bag will come home on Friday.  In the bag you will find directions explaining how to make an “All About Me” poster.   Please make your poster on a regular sized poster board, approx 22x28.  After you make your poster with your child please help them to choose 3 items that they would like to bring to school to show to the class (ex. favorite stuffed animal, special trophy, etc).  You can place the items in the star student bag.  The items will be returned the same day they are brought.  The poster will be displayed for a week and then it will be sent home for you to keep.

Birthdays:

Invitations are welcome to be brought to school if there is one sent for every child in the class.

Estimation Jar:

Each child will have the opportunity to take home our class estimation jar.  The jar will need to be returned to school on Monday with the items that the students will be estimating.  Please help your child fill this jar with no more than 100 items.  If you send food items they must be individually wrapped.  At the end of the week, the items will be returned home with the student who brought them.  If you would like for the items to be distributed to the class please, send a note indicating your preference.  (Examples of past contents: stickers, pencils, erasers, etc.)

Bi-Monthly Kindergarten Newsletter:

Bi-monthly  newsletters will be sent to you via email twice a month and posted on our kindergarten website.  It is imperative that your email address remain current so that you stay informed of upcoming events and important information. If you do not have access to email please let me know so that I can send you a hard copy.

Mrs. Bartolome’s Contact Information:

Please allow at least 24 hours for a reply to emails and notes.  I am often unable to check emails or make phone calls during the school day due to my teaching schedule.  I will make every attempt to get back with you as soon as possible.  All questions are welcome.  Please just ask!

Volunteers:

Volunteers are essential to our classrooms!  I will need volunteers to help in a variety of ways this year, from cutting and copying to field trips.  If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the attached form and return it to school in your child’s red folder.

***If you are interested in volunteering at the school or for field trips, you must complete a yearly (July to July) criminal background check.  This can be done by going to www.allenisd.org and clicking on the REGISTER TO BE A VOLUNTEER link under the Human Resources header.

Thank you and I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
