Read All About It - Read all kinds of books with your child, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, magazines, comics . . .
Around the House - Tape up around the house (bedroom / bathroom door, refrigerator . . .) words, phone number, address . . . each day as your child goes by these cards ask them to tell you (or spell for you) what they say.
Environmental Print - Read signs, store names, menus, food labels . . . whatever you see daily with your child. Make your child aware of the importance of reading in order to live in our world. Have your child spell things they see, such as walking into Target - T, a, r, g, e, t.
Read and Tell - After reading a story, have your child retell the story to you. If it is a long story do it in sections. This will help extend your child's language experience and build vocabulary.
