  • 2012 Rudolph Run

Posted by Kim Leslie at 10/4/2012
    Parents,

The City of Allen is sponsoring their annual Rudolph Run on Saturday, December 1st. The Rudolph Run is a fun, healthy and easy way to put money into our schools PE department. A portion of every entry is returned to our school to help raise money for our PE department. You have the choice of signing up for a 1 mile fun run/walk, or a 5K race. The 1 mile race is $15 per entry and the 5K is $20 per entry.

Marion has won the trophy for most participation out of all the schools in Allen 6 out of the last 7 years. My class has had the most participation (taking 1st place in the class competitions) 4 of the 7 years I have been here. We won the last 3 years in a row and I would love to make it a four-peat! The class with the most entries turned in will get 30 minutes of extra PE time, where they can play with materials of their choice in the gym.

Our class does get credit for every entry they turn in. For example: mom, dad, sisters, brothers, grandparents, friends, etc. If you have more than one child at Marion, the sibling will also get credit for all your entries turned in. Please try and get as many family members and friends signed up as possible! :) My husband, Mason and I will all be signing up for the 1 mile fun run. If your family is able to join us, please click on the link below and print out the form. Please fill it out and return it with the payment in your child's green folder. The forms will be due by November 2nd.

Please respond on our blog letting us know if your family will be signing up.
We will be keeping a class graph that shows how many entries our class has.
                                              Thanks!!
                                             Mrs. Leslie

  • Melting Ice

Posted by Kim Leslie at 9/27/2012

This week our class has been learning about matter.  Your child should be able to tell you the 3 types of matter and how matter can change, whether it be from a solid to a liquid, liquid to a solid or even into a gas.

In class today I encouraged the students to go home and conduct their own experienment and to share their findings on our blog.

Question:  How can we melt our ice cube and how long will it take?

    Supplies:
    Ice cube
    Timer (watch)
    anything else you might need

Come up with a hypothesis:  I think my ice cube will melt in               minutes if I leave/put my ice cube in/under/on                       . (this statement can vary)

    Then test your hypothesis.

Submit your finding in our comment section:  Example.  I thought my ice cube would melt in 3 minutes if I put my ice cube under a lamp.  It actually took 6 minutes.  We will be sharing these findings with our class over the next couple of days!

    Happy Experimenting!!!
    Mrs. Leslie

    Welcome to Marion!

My name is Mrs. Leslie, I am so excited to be your teacher this year!  I have been a Kindergarten teacher at Marion for 7 years.  I am married to my husband Matt and we have a 3 year old son named Mason.  My family is very athletic. We love to play sports and spend time outdoors. We also enjoy taking walks to the park and feeding the ducks.  I would love to know about you and your family and some things you like to do with them.   Please post a comment about yourself so that I can share it with the class on Friday the first week of school.  It will be a wonderful way to get to know everyone in our class.
