A NORMAL DAY IN THE CLINIC.....
I try to make the clinic an easy place to come if needed. Each day we see many students in the clinic. Some are more severe than others. The general clinic procedure is to assess their symptoms, treat them if necessary and then send them back to class. Our goal is to limit their time out of class while still meeting their health care needs. We are limited by law in the treatments we can provide here (ice, rest, bandages, water eye rinse, clean wounds with soap and water, and mints for sore throats are the main ones). If your child needs any medication, it will need to be brought in by the parent and a form completed. If they do not have a fever or other contagious medical condition, we will request they attempt to go back to class. I do not routinely call parents on a child's first clinic visit of the day. I have the students try class again. Frequently, they start feeling better and do not return to the clinic for the remainder of the day.
I try very hard to communicate with students, parents, and teachers in many ways including: newsletter notifications, letters home, phone calls, and emails. If they have had a bump to the head (however minor), I will send home a RED HEAD INJURY LETTER so you will be aware. The easiest way to get a hold of me during school hours is via email. I am usually busy with students all day long, so phone calls are typically hard to answer. Feel free to leave a message on my voicemail and I will return your call at the end of the day. Please do not "just leave a message" if it is something you need to be done in that school day. Please make sure you speak with a "live person" in the office so they can make me aware. Some requests might also need to be followed up with a note so we can keep it for our records. In addition, this year I will be updating my website constantly with new information. Please refer back to my website frequently in order to find up-to-date health information, print off clinic forms, and find links to health-related topics.
Thank you so much for allowing me to assist with the health care of your children! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
