Career Portal in Business
Grades 7 & 8 This is a semester class, and replaces Keyboarding. The student will develop skills in operating the keyboard as well as achieve acceptable speed and accuracy. The student will apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Students will enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment. Students will also learn skills to be proficient in various Microsoft Office applications. Activities will include formatting and printing documents such as personal and business letters, short reports, and outlines. Business Information Management 1 Grade 8 This is a full-year class, and has one high school credit. Students will develop technology skills with applications to personal or business situations focusing on word processing, spreadsheets, databases, telecommunications, desktop publishing, presentation management, networking, operating systems, and emerging technologies’ and develops intermediate-level skills. Achieving proficiency in decision making and problem solving is an essential skill for career planning and lifelong learning. Students use self-knowledge, educational, and career information to set and achieve realistic career and educational goals. Exploring Careers Grades 7 & 8 Career Investigations is a semester class. The students will explore a variety of career opportunities. Units of study include: · Career planning

Career Portal in Finance Grades 7 & 8 This is a semester class. Students will learn basic accounting and record-keeping skills. Students will use Microsoft Excel. In addition, students will develop knowledge and skills in financial literacy including budgeting, and how to open and manage a checking and/or savings account.
Technology Applications in Communication
Grades 7 & 8 Students will enhance proficiency in various Internet communication applications. Students will learn and explore the basics of social networking. Some of the activities include Google Documents, email, blogs, and podcasting. Students will learn to make web pages using Html. Technology Applications in Computer Graphics Grades 7 & 8 This course provides an avenue for students to creatively explore various technical applications. The students will learn basic skills in animation, photo-editing, and web design. The software will include: · Photo Story

· Photoshop Elements
· Acid Music Studio
Career Portal in Human Service and Hospitality Grades 7 & 8 This course provides students with essential knowledge and skills for managing the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society. Students will learn to enhance career and personal effectiveness, promote family strength and well-being, and pursue career options.
Principles of Hospitality and Tourism
New for 2011-12 Grade 8 ½ high school credit The hospitality and tourism class will consist of lodging, travel and tourism, recreation, amusements, attractions and resorts. Restaurants and the food and beverage services will also be included. The hospitality and tourism industry remains one of the largest employment bases in today’s private sector.
