Throughout the years, Dr.
Boon has served on numerous school, city and county boards and committees. He served on the Allen ISD Board of Trustees
from 1975 to 1988, including seven years as Board President. Under his tenure, the board won the
Outstanding School Board Award from the Texas Association of School Boards. He
has served on the Collin County Community College Board of Trustees since 1990.
Dr. E.T. Boon played a key role in the formation of the Allen Economic Development Council and served as its president for three years. According to Allen Mayor Steve Terrell, Allen has undergone phenomenal growth since Dr. Boon first became involved in the community. He said when Dr. Boon was first elected to the school board there were few industries, the school district was poor, and very few students attended college. “Now, all of our schools are highly rated. Also, most of our students attend college and are well prepared. Education is fundamental to the success of this country,” he said. In October 2002, The Allen Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) presented Dr. E.T. Boon, 12-year veteran of the CCCCD board of trustees, with the fourth annual “Millennium Award.” The award is presented to three businesses and one individual recognizing their commitment and outstanding efforts to further the development of Allen. According to Allen Mayor Steve Terrell, Dr. Boon was selected for the honor because he has been a “key architect” for the city.
Dr. Boon and his wife Gayle raised three children in Allen – Taylor, Kimbra and Holly.
