In December 2004, the Allen ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Elementary School #13 in honor of Carlena Chandler, a former Allen High School educator and graduate. Mrs. Chandler taught business at Allen High School from 1968 to 1970 and from 1973 until her retirement in 1999 for a total of 28 years. She also graduated from Allen High School as class valedictorian in 1960. She taught for ten years in the Collin County Community College Business Department and is actively involved in the Allen Retired Teachers Association. She continues to work regularly as a substitute teacher at Allen High School.

Mrs. Chandler currently lives in Fairview with her husband Charles, a 1958 Allen High School graduate. Their two sons are also Allen alumni. Bart, a 1989 graduate, is a middle school teacher and coach in Paris, Texas and Brian, a 1985 graduate, is a teacher and coach at Denton High School. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of North Texas and received numerous awards from business education professional organizations during her teaching tenure in Allen.
