Kids Helping Kids Book Drive - Feb. 10-12

bookdrive
It’s time once again for Keep Allen Beautiful’s Kids Helping Kids Book Drive. This annual event led by our student Kindness and Compassion Leaders started two years ago.  It provides an opportunity for Green families to clean out our bookshelves and donate the books we no longer want.   Books we collect are given to a community in need and because they are “re-used” the drive fulfills one of our environmental leadership goals of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

This year the Kids Helping Kids Book Drive will help build a library in Sand Branch, a small town that is in one of the poorest areas of Dallas County. A town of approximately 400 homes, Sand Branch is located between the Trinity River and Hackberry Creek. Sand Branch does not have utilities, emergency services or clean water. Although the town has an Oak Cliff zip code, it doesn’t share the City’s services. Sand Branch is the only unincorporated settlement left in Dallas County.  While the town needs help in many areas, one desire of the community is access to books.  Our goal will be to help build a public library of at least 5,000 children and young adult books.  This year we will accept adult books too.

For the last two years Green has collected more books than any other school - last year collecting over 3000 books!  This year, with the addition of adult books, we should be able to deliver even more books to this worthy cause!
