Welcome to Michelle Harlan's Web Page

I am proud to be part of the special education team at Green Elementary. Since becoming certified in Texas to teach special education, I have been teaching reading and language arts to students with special needs for five years. I joined the exceptional staff at Green in Fall 2006 after working in Plano ISD at Jasper High School for four years.

I may not have started out in teaching, but I got here as quickly as I could. After earning my bachelor’s degree in public relations at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., I spent 10 years in the marketing and communications field. During that time, I lived and worked in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Cincinnati and Plano.

Shortly after moving to Texas, I realized my lifelong hope of someday pursuing a career in education following in my parents’ footsteps. My late father was a school administrator and principal and my mother is a retired special education teacher after teaching for more than 35 years in California classrooms. Her unrelenting curiosity and love of exploring the world has inspired me to share my passions for travel, nature, reading and the arts with my students.

I recently moved to Allen, where I now live with my son, Josh, and two dogs, Payson and Skipper. Josh is a Green Explorer in the second grade this year.

I am originally from a small beach town called Rio Del Mar in the beautiful Monterey Bay Area of northern California, where you can often find me reading on the beach in the summertime.

Oh the places we’ll go!

Sincerely,

Michelle Harlan
