Reading Programs

Developing life long readers is one of the goals of the Vaughan Library Media Center. In addition to providing unlimited access to books in the Media Center, we participate in two special programs.

Texas Bluebonnet Award

The Texas Bluebonnet Award is given each year to a book chosen by the school children of Texas from a list of 20 nominees. Students in grades 3-6 who have read at least 5 of the nominated books are eligible to vote. The Library Media Center has the nominated books for 2001-2002 available for reading now. Voting will be held the end of January, 2002. Special voting parties will be held for those students who have read at least 5 of the nominated books. Students who read all 20 of the books will receive special recognition.

Six Flags 600 Minute Reading Club

The Six Flags 600 Minute Reading Club takes place during six weeks in January and February. Students who read at least 600 minutes during that time and turn in reading logs receive a ticket to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. The ticket is good during specified times in the summer. Information will be sent home about this exciting program when it is available.
