![]() News and Information for Parents Date: October 6-10 1. Please be sure and have your student read his/her AR book each night for at least 20 minutes. Our AR program has started, and each student is responsible for a designated amount of reading by the end of the six weeks. Thus, he/ she should be reading his/her AR chapter book and taking tests each week. AR progress and AR test scores will count as part of the Reading grade. (Ask your student what his/her personal goal is. :) 2. Our first Weekly Reader magazines and assignment sheets were given to the students on Friday, Oct. 3. Please enjoy reading the Weekly Reader with your child...it makes for great teaching moments, not to mention one-on-one time. :) The assignment sheet gives the directions on what your child needs to do for his/her assignment. The assignment sheet is due this Friday, OCTOBER 10th. 3. Yearbooks are now going on sale! a.)To buy one at school, just send a check for $20 made payable to Bolin Elementary. Nearly all students have turned in Weekly Reader money. Thank you for viewing the note and sending in the $4.00 payment. If you have not had a chance to do so yet and desire for your child to keep the magazines throughout the year, please send the payment to school with your child early this week. (Please include your driver's license number on the check made out to Bolin Elementary.) Thank you! 5. Harris / Penner students have a homework calendar in their binder. The calendar includes homework assignments for the entire six weeks. I assign Math homework each night Monday - Thursday, which is always due the next day. Mrs. Penner assigns Spelling homework for each night, but the Spelling homework is not to be turned in until Friday morning. (However, if your student makes 90 or above on the pretest on Friday, then he/she will be assigned a 'challenge' spelling list. The current homework assignments for the challenge list are to write the words two times each and then choose 5 phrases to use in sentences. Occasionally, your student will be asked to do another assignment. If your student has the challenge list, he / she will need to spend extra time studying, also. These words are GREAT for our writing, and even if your child does not receive it for homework, he/she will still be exposed to the rich words in class. The Spelling book, however, will need to stay at home all year. :) 6. Mrs. Penner and I are now beginning to schedule parent conferences. If you were not able to attend Curriculum Night, please email us what days of the week are good for you, as well as your choice of after school or during our conference period time (9:00 - 9:30). We will each make our schedule and then get back with you. Thank you! |
