Service Project |
| This year (2008) our class raised $90. for the Lymphoma Society. On May 2, 3, and 4 of 2007 we sold student-made bookmarks in the cafeteria for 25 cents. We raised $80.00 for the Sky Ranch Fund! We hope to make this an annual event. In 2004, third graders sold bookmarks in the cafeteria. They designed them in class and at home. They raised $100.60. All proceeds were sent to the Connemara Conservancy. This was a service project to help preserve large open spaces. In 2003, third graders sent a check to the Connemara Conservancy for $89.17. This was raised by selling bookmarks for ten cents each. The donation was made in memory of Mrs. Frances Williams. In 2002, the third grade classes also designed some neat bookmarks. They sold them during the lunch periods and raised $100.13.Our class agreed that large open spaces are important. In April of 2003, the 3rd graders also visited the meadow and walked with two naturalists. This was very interesting. This event was followed by a picnic. On May 11, 2001, the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Saplings celebrated Connemara with a poetry-luncheon. Every student had an opportunity to read original poetry. The Saplings performed a short skit and featured a violin duet by Katy and Quentin. Students presented a Powerpoint slide consisting of 85 slides. Students also created sculptures as table decorations as well as placemats that contained inspiring quotations. The cake had the words, "FOR IT'S A JOLLY GOOD MEADOW" written on it. This was Willie's idea. George played this tune on the keyboard while the guest ate lunch. Nathan and Katy were our emcees this year. Our guests were Mrs. Frances Williams, Mr. and Mrs.David Behm, Mrs. Georgie Green, Mrs. Regina Taylor, Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Michelle Knoezer, and Mrs. Wilma Smith. Students raised $65.50 for the Conservancy and this check was presented at the program's end. The mission of the Saplings is to spread the importance of preserving large open spaces! |
