WORLD GEOGRAPHY COURSE DESCRIPTION

My name is Beverly Morgan, and I teach ninth-grade world geography. The course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in high school, college, and life.
We will begin the course with a review of the themes of geography, latitude and longitude, and the many different types of maps, graphs, and charts. Also, included is a review of physical science concepts such as the earth’s place in the solar system and its physical features. Then, we will look more closely at how the features of the earth such as wind and ocean currents affect climate. Next, we will study how the earth’s natural resources affect the relationship between countries. Finally, I will introduce terms and ideas in human geography, emphasizing population, religion, and economics, to which I will refer in the study of every world region.
Each regional unit will begin with the study of physical geography—land features, water systems, natural resources, climate, and vegetation. Next, we will study cultural geography—ethnic groups, population patterns, history, government, language, religion, and lifestyles. Finally, we will study recent developments and current events in each region. The course is divided into the following regions:

FIRST SEMESTER
United States and Canada
Middle and South America

SECOND SEMESTER
Europe
Russia and Northern Eurasia
Africa
Southwest Asia
South Asia
East and Southeast Asia
The Pacific World
