Class Communication
Communication is the key to success. As a team, we need to have strong and healthy communication skills. Your child's team consists of the child;himself, his parents and his teachers. His "support team" includes our school nurse, counselor and administrators. We all have the same goal, to help your child have the most successful year possible.

Below are the different ways I will communicate with you to help you stay informed of what is happening in your child's class. Checking your child's "Homework Notebook" and agenda nightly is extremely important. If your child sees that you make it a part of your daily responsibilities to look in his notebook and check his agenda, then he, in turn, will become more responsible and succesful in using these very important organizations skills. Skills he can use forever!

As always, you are welcome to contact me if you have any questions, concerns or ideas. I respectfully request that if you have a concern that you will first contact me so that we may discuss it. I consider this a professional courtesy. Accordingly, out of respect and professional courtesy, I will always notify you directly of any concerns I have for your child. Again, working together, we can help your child have a great year!

Communication:

1) Homework Notebook: This will come home every evening with your child. It had easy to understand dividers to help you navigate through the notebook. Any work your child needs to take care of will be in that notebook.

2) Conduct Sheet: Your child’s conduct sheet is kept in the homework folder. Since this goes home every night, you have the opportunity to review the conduct sheet on a daily basis. The Conduct Sheet is to be signed after the end of the week and return to school signed on Monday morning.

3) The AGENDA: Daily assignments and school activities are written here daily by your child. About once every six weeks I will do an agenda check to see if your child is being responsible and completing the agenda as requested. I ask you check your child's agenda every night to see what he is working on in class, if there is any activities coming up, what we are doing to support ACO, PTA events, etc. There is a diamond your child can circle or color in to show that he has completed an assignment. We do not collect homework early, so you can always ask to see your child's work for review. It should be kept in the homework notebook; which with the agenda comes home every afternoon.

4) PTA Green Folder: The PTA Announcement Folder will continue to go home every Thursday night. This will include any flyers from the city, and the district as well as from PTA. The right side of the folder will be papers to take home, look at and keep home. Papers on the left side of the folder, require a signature and should be returned to school as indicated. (book orders, etc.) If we should receive any other handouts, announcements, etc. that need to go home prior to Thursday, they will go home in your child's "Homework Folder" with a notation in the agenda on that day.

5) Rather than waiting to send home graded work once a week; there is now a divider in the notebook for "Graded Work". Check this section nightly when you review the agenda and Homework Notebook nightly. If your child needs to review, correct and return an assignment, it will be noted on the paper with the deadline to return the make-up work. All make-up or "redo" must also have a parent signature to be accepted.

6. POWELL'S "E-nnouncements"

"E-nnouncements" is a class newsletter/update/reminder sent via email. For parents who do not have an email address, paper copies are made and sent home in your child's "Homework Folder" on the day the email is sent out. If your email address changes, please email me with your new email address so I can update my group email immediately. Emails are sent as a "blind cc". It will appear that the email was sent only to myself and you; however that is not the case. By sending an email as a "blind cc" the privacy of your email address is kept.
