![]() Reading is the heart and soul of your child's education. The best gift you can give your child is the time to read. Allow time in your family's schedule to read together as a family. Find a good book to read together as a family. Discuss what you have read. Children want to please their parents so badly (and their teachers!) that they may not admit they don't understand what they have just read or what was read to them. 30 minutes of reading every night will make such an incredible difference in your child's reading ability and his/her self esteem. IN SCHOOL: Each child will have reading skills to develop through reading packets, computer programs or other reading resources. Most all of the work will be completed in class. If your child does need to take some of it home your child's agenda will indicate he has an assignment which needs to be finished at home. Skills covered include: following directions, sequences, inference, main idea, summarization, and locating the answer. Through the packets we are able to continue to build our foundation of the fundamentals of reading. That allows us more class time to work on higher level thinking skills as well as fluency by reading short stories and novels together in small groups. The packets are different to meet your child's individual needs. If you have questions regarding the work your child is doing, please do not hesitate to contact me. |
