| My career in education began in May of 1984. I graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in history. I have also secured an endorsement in Early Childhood as well as Gifted and Talented Education. In addition, I have my Masters in Education Administration. During the summer of 2002 I also received my E.S.L. Certification. I accepted my first teaching position at Stephen F. Austin Junior High in Irving, Texas. I enjoyed teaching 7th grade Texas History and 8th grade math. In August of 1986, Tom and I married. We moved to Plano. For myself, I believe it is important to live in the community in which you teach. I had the opportunity to work with the PISD for two years teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grade at Meadows Elementary School and Saigling Elementary School. With the purchase of our first home I began teaching in Allen. I piloted the Content Mastery Program for two years at Story Elementary School then became a part of the sixth grade team. While on the sixth grade team I taught math and creative writing. In 1992, AISD introduced a gifted and talented program to the middle school. I piloted the AIM program at Ford Middle School. I enjoyed the challenge of working with incredibly bright and creative youth as well as the challenge of developing a two year humanities based curriculum for the program. It was also during this time that I completed my Master's degree in Education Administration from the University of North Texas. With my youngest son, Jeff entering first grade at Green in the fall of 2000, I joined the Green faculty. It takes a village to raise a child. As a teacher at Green, I strive to contribute to the healthy development of each of my students. We live in a community of parents who strive to play an active role in the education of their children. As a team we are able to provide a quality education to our children which nurtures not only their academic development, but their social, emotional, physical and spiritual growth as well. I can not imagine anything more fulfilling! |
