Hello! Welcome to the 5th grade! I am delighted to be starting my fifth year teaching here at Kerr Elementary. I will be teaching writing and social studies to your child this year. Reading and writing are passions of mine not just as a teacher, but also in my own life. My goal this year is to help my students grow as writers and enjoy the experience each step of the way. In addition, studying United States history will hopefully help your student develop geography skills, a respect for the development of our country, and an awareness of what it means to be a U.S. citizen.
I was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1992. From there, I attended Baylor University and graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1996, with a specialization in reading and an early childhood endorsement. In 1998, I earned my Master of Science in Education degree, also from Baylor University, in Curriculum and Instruction with an Educational Technology cognate.
While I truly enjoyed all of my educational experiences, I was thrilled to begin my teaching career in Richardson ISD. I taught self-contained 4th grade classes there for five years until moving to Allen ISD and Kerr Elementary in 2003.
It's going to be a fabulous year in fifth grade! In writing class, we will practice fundamental grammar skills, explore poetry and various forms of essay writing, and practice editing and revision skills. In social studies, we will focus on United States history and geography from its exploration all the way through current events.
