Welcome to my web page! I am Patricia Grubbs and I am excited about being on the faculty of Marion Elementary School. This is my third year at Marion after teaching at Story Elementary in Allen for three years. I came to Allen from Wichita Falls, Texas, where I taught in elementary and high school as a music specialist. I attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls and hold a Bachelors of Music Education and Masters of Music Education from that institution. My areas of specialization are piano and voice.
I have been involved in many areas of music education with children, having taught children from age 4 through seniors in high school. Early in my career, I received training with the Yamaha Music Education System. For many years, I instructed preschool and elementary age children in keyboard classes which emphasized early ear training. I directed children's choirs for many years and in 1995, was employed as Choir Assistant at Wichita Falls High School. During my three years in this position, my duties included preparing about 100 students per year for the All-State competitions and UIL Solo and Ensemble contests. This work was extremely rewarding, but I longed to work with the elementary age student again. So, in 1998, I moved to an elementary music specialist position at Haynes Elementary.
I believe that working with the young child in music is vital to the success of that student in music in later years. Music can provide so many things to enrich a person's life as well as enhance brain development.
I would like to provide music learning for the students at Marion as well as an opportunity to perform. We will be offering several extra-curricular activities which are open to students in the upper grades. Music Memory, a UIL competition will be offered to grades 3 through 6. Four teams will be formed for the competition. We will be offering performing opportunities for Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade as well as for 6th Grade Choir. Our 6th Grade Choir is planning to perform several times during the year at school and off-campus. We are planning several field trips for music enrichment. Third grade will attend a performance by the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra. Fourth grade will travel to Dallas and attend a performance by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Fifth grade will be seeing a musical performance that will be arranged in the future.
I am looking forward to a most rewarding year. I count it a privilege to be able to share my love of music with the students at Marion Elementary School.
