Marion's Library Media Center

Mrs. Gabbard and Mrs. Champion Welcome You!!

Welcome to the exciting world of the Library Media Center at Marion Elementary! Our new librarian is Mrs. Dianna Gabbard. Mrs. Gabbard comes from the Dallas Independent School District. She has been a classroom teacher for several years teaching 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th grade. She obtained her Masters Degree from Texas A & M and for several years was a DISD librarian. She loves being a librarian and enjoys getting students involved in reading the many wonderful books here at the Marvelous Marion Maverick Library!

Mrs. Dawn Champion is the library assistant. She has worked with the Marvelous Marion Mavericks as a substitute teacher and a teacher's aid. She is very hard working, super organized and most helpful in every way. She is a very valuable asset to the library and makes sure teachers and students have the Safari technology system up and running daily. She was voted the "Most Energetic" staff person for the 2007-2008 school year!

In addition to the fantastic library staff, the Marvelous Marion Library has over 15,000 books, several magazines, a daily newspaper, and 25 computers at staff and student disposal.

Students have regularly scheduled class times to visit the library. During this time students enjoy books read aloud to them with followup extension activities. Students are using the library program OPAC to find the 'just right' books for them. Teachers schedule classes in the library for research and other group projects. Students are encouraged to use the computers to finish homework or work on classroom projects. There are several areas available in the library for students to engage in quiet reading and study areas are also provided.

Students are encouraged to check out books often and to check out several books at a time. However, students are reminded to check out books they can read and books that they can be responsible for. Students are also encouraged to drop by the library 8:00-8:30 (before scheduled classes begin) and from 2:15-3:00 (after scheduled classes end) for book exchange.

The library offers several different reading programs and incentives to encouage ALL students to read. Be sure and visit the links on this web site for more information about the other valuable resources the library offers.
