ClubsThe following clubs have been available to Ford Students. Each
year different clubs become available as new teachers with special interests volunteer to
sponsor them. Print the Clubs Brochure with a letter about clubs from Mrs. McCoy-Jackson.
Please be available to pick up your child after a club meeting or activity is over.
| Anime Club Shelley Myers - Anyone
interested in Japanese Animation (Anime) is welcome to attend our meetings. We get
together every other week in Ms. Meyers' art room to share books, drawings, games, and
make new friends with people who have these same interests. We are working on a
website for the club. We bring in guest speakers, we discuss books and films, and
we organize outings to the Allen Public Library to attend workshops. Come meet your
friends and make new ones in the Anime Club! Meetings are every other Wednesday in
room G104 from 3:35 - 4:30 pm. |
| Beta Club Michele Franke and Katie Fondren
A national organization that recognizes outstanding academic achievement, promotes
character and social responsibility, and encourages service involvement to school and
commnity. Meetings are on Tuesday from 7:50 - 8:20 am. |
| DOLLS Gale Schilberg - DOLLS is an after
school club lead by 8th grade girls. While the club consists of a large majority of
girls, anyone is welcome to join us. At our weekly meetings on Monday after school,
we start off with praise and worship, listen to an inspiring devotional given by our two
chaplains, and finish off with the business. During "business" we discuss
all the upcoming events we have planned such as A Night of Thanks, Sisterhood,
volunteering opportunities, and our annual "Sleepover". Our club has over
75 members and we are constantly growing. DOLLS meets every Monday in D102 from 3:35
- 4:45. |
| FCA Bridget Dill - FCA is the largest
interdenominational, school- based, Christian sports ministry in America. FCA
focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to
make a difference for Christ. Meetings are every Wednesday in B109 from 7:50 - 8:20
am. |
| Lab Assistants Linda Burdette - The Lab
Assistants Organization focuses on the development of students leadership and
responsibility skills. These skills will prepare you for many of the problems and/or
projects you may be faced with during the course of your life. There are requirements and
obligations that students accept with membership. An application is
required for membership. Although there is a monthly meeting, Lab Assistants help
teachers in the building at different times according to the need. |
| NJHS Donna Laster - NJHS is a
nationally-recognized organization. Students who have been at FMS for at least one
semester and who have maintained a 93 gpa and good conduct are eligible for membership. In
this student-centered organization, members participate individually and in large group
service projects designed to support either their school or community. Examples
include dances, parades, teacher-appreciation events, tutoring assistants, elementary
school ambassadors, adopt-a-highway events
.to name a few service opportunities!
NJHS meets occasionally during the school day. Service hours are earned on a
varying schedule. |
| Quilting Club Linda Grimes and Chris
Vandagriff - Quilting Club is a club to learn the age old craft of quilting.
Quilting has been a craft used first to provide warm blankets for families and today it is
a hobby for enjoyment. Students learn the basics of this craft by using their hands
and sewing machines to piece together small pieces of material into a wonderful
quilt. Come learn this hobby from 2 experienced Quilters. Meetings are every
other Thursday from 3:40 - 4:30 pm in A101. |
| Step Club Rita Gilmore and Venecia Napier
This energetic group of young Ladies and Men work as a team to develop their own
rhythmic routines with their feet and hands. They bring together a beat and movement
that is a delight to experience. This is a very self motivated, unique and talented group
of students. Students will try out for Step Club beginning in the second six
weeks. Students must be passing all their classes to participate. |
| Robotics Mrs. March - The Robotics Club
uses the Lego Mindstorms robots. Many of the students are "Mindstorms Maniacs."
They build the robots and program them and compete in robotics competitions.
Robotics meets Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:35 - 5:00 pmuntil the
competition on October 20. |
| Student Council Brooke Hiatt and Sara
Walling - Student Government organization that mends that gap between student body and
administration. Holds many fundraisers and sponsors dances through out the year.
This is an elected position. |
| Extreme Sports Club - Ann Allen, Rachel Gingberg
Extreme Sports Club meets every other Thursday from 3:35 - 4:30pm. Students
who are interested in skateboarding, skating, biking, etc are welcome to participate. |
| UIL Teams - Pam Ongley, and lots of other
teachers UIL is not technically a club, but it is several groups of students who
meet after school to practice for UIL competitions in an assortment of categories.
Currently, Ms. Burdette is recruiting students for the UIL science team.
Before we ready to compete, teams for number sense, calculators, spelling,
speaking, and countless other disciplines will be recruited and trained. Last year
we sent teams to San Antonio to the state competition. |
