Opportunities for ServiceStudents and teachers are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities to be
of service to others. Prime Times devise ways that they can help needy people and
invite others to participate with them. Last year Prime Times sold Mardi Gras beads
to support Katrina relief. Before the holidays, Prime Times collected food items to
donate to needy families. During the holidays we collected items for the Angel Tree.
When the Allen Community Relief put out an appeal for pantry items, we pitched
in. We also helped our with the Keep Allen Clean campaign by spreading out over our
campus and collecting trash.
Organizations like NJHS, Beta Club, and the Student Council
perform service in the community as well. Groups go to our neighborhood nursing home
to visit with residents, pack holiday boxes for needy children, visit elementary schools
to read with the children, and participate annually in the Relay for Life to raise money
for cancer research.
Supporting Marines in Iraq
Thanks to Mrs. Abrams for giving us the opportunity to send holiday
greetings and stockings filled with gifts to 39 Marines stationed in Iraq. The men
are the platoon of her son, Lt. Brian Abrams. Prime Times, individuals, office
groups, and classes adopted one of the marines and filled a stocking and gift bag with
items from the list Brian provided his mom.
Helping Each Other Every Day
Finally, students at Ford serve one another through
programs such as Peer Helpers and PALS. Peer Helpers give up an hour of their day to
attend classes with their peers to help them with their lessons. PALS are trained
and are available to act as peer mediators. In addition, students use part of their
school day to work as library, office, teacher, and lab aides.
