The information in this handbook applies to my yearbook class as well as my other classes because as a yearbook student, you will be using computers every day. In addition, however, there are policies and information that are peculiar just to yearbook.

In the process of producing the best quality yearbook that we can possible make, you must remember that the book we produce will be a memory book that students will keep for years to come and even show to their children. As a result we have a serious responsibility to make sure that. . .

  1. The information in the book is accurate and fair to everyone.
  2. As many people and activities as possible are included.
  3. All captions are kind, appropriate, non-offensive in any way to any one, accurate, and correct with regard to grammar and spelling.
  4. All survey results or other information are appropriate and accurate, not reflecting negatively on the district, the school, the staff, or any individual.
  5. The images must be of excellent quality. Their content should not embarrass anyone. If there is any doubt at all, the people in the photos should be consulted and their permission obtained.
  6. We do everything we can to insure a reasonable cost for the yearbook, beginning by meeting all publisher’s deadlines.Decisions regarding number of pages, inclusion of color, and other items that affect the cost of the book must be made carefully, knowing that cost is an important factor to any families.

After making design decisions and determining the sections into which the book will be divided, we will divide ourselves into teams for each spread. With regard to work on a yearbook spread team, it is important to remember . . .

  1. Your work is not done until the team’s work is done.
  2. You may have to work with another team to help meet deadlines.
  3. The teams decisions may not be your favorites, but after the decision is made, your job is to support it cheerfully.

Application Process

Because class sized are limited in the Multimedia Lab by number of computers and software licenses, an application process is necessary to select students for the multimedia and yearbook classes. Applications are made available to students who are interested during the registration process. The application includes a form for the student to fill out giving biographical data and answers to questions regarding their idea of what multimedia or yearbook is and how they think they can contribute and/or benefit. It also includes a form to be signed by parents and students acknowledging that they understand what the class is all about and are willing to abide by our school’s AUG. The last part of the application is teacher recommendations. Students are required to find three teachers who are willing to recommend them for the class. I select as many students as space allows. Since Yearbook is a full year class, students may apply or reapply in the spring for the next fall.
