Ford's and
AISD's
2008 Teacher of the Year
Ford's 2008 Teacher of the Year and AISDis Teacher of the Year as well
is Donna Laster. Mrs. Laster has
taught 8th grade English at Ford for the last 16 years. She has
also led our NJHS members to serve the school and community in
significant ways which include organizing and planning Veterans Day
activities, sponsoring dances, and appreciating teachers.
Congratulations, Mrs. Laster! |

2008 AISD Bell Ringers from
Ford
Among the AISD honorees each spring are Bell Ringers. These are
folks who go far beyond their job descriptions to be of service to
students and staff members at their school. We are proud of the
three 2008 Bell Ringers from Ford.Michele
Franke is the 8th grade counselor at Ford Middle School. On a daily
basis, she goes above and beyond for the students and staff at FMS. She

students through academic, personal, and family
problems. Although she may have one of the most difficult jobs in the
building, you will never hear Michele complain. She always has words of
encouragement an praise! Not only does she make a difference in the
lives of the kids, Mrs. Franke supports the teachers as well. Her
positive energy keeps morale high. She sends e-mail updates on behalf of
the CARE Committee to the staff. These e-mails often acknowledge the
hard work of the staff, share good news, and sometimes communicate the
personal struggles of our colleagues. Mrs. Franke recognizes how
important it is for us to support and encourage one another, and she
leads by example.
Susie Orellana came up with the idea of having
our own American Idol competition each Friday. Students had to audition
and make it past the “judges” to perform in front of the classes that
attended the competition each week. Contestants are given a “theme” for
the week and the “judges” decide who moves on. When contestants got down
to the final 10, the students were allowed to participate in the voting
process as well. From the students that I have in class that are in the
competition, I see an excitement and confidence that I haven’t seen all
year. Ms. Orellana has promoted a sense of identity, achievement, and
worth in the students at FMS. The students have PRIDE in their school
and their classmates... Teachers struggle with finding unique and fun
activities for our students during our Prime Time classes. Ms. Orellana
had a wonderful idea to orchestrate a Ford version of American Idol on
Fridays. This time has allowed the student body “bonding time” with
their classmates and some of their teachers. It has also enabled our
students to recognize some of their peers for unknown talents and cheer
for students who might not otherwise be recognized. (It has allowed some
of our students to come out of their shells). American Idol at Ford is
the highlight of the week for Prime Time classes. The 7th and 8th grade
years for a child are crucial in developing self esteem and self worth.
Ms. Orellana has found a way to impact these young students’ lives in a
positive manner. Our students will never forget their time at FMS and
American Idol.
Christy Wenner accepted the responsibility of
Team Leader for the Special Education Department after our team leader
(of 20 years) retired. Christy has done an outstanding job taking on
this responsibility and developing her leadership qualities. On top of
the added responsibilities of team leader, she was challenged with three
new teachers within the department. Christy is a "team player" and has
shown the qualities that exemplify a leader... Christy is extremely
flexible with her time....I watch her continually consult with teachers
and administrators and her team at any time...Her greatest quality is
her ability to continue to smile and laugh at all times. |
2008 Rookie of the Year
Stephanie Edwards is the Rookie of the Year for 2008 at Ford. Ms.
Edwards teaches choir and is a cheer coach. Ford's choirs
outstanding performances have been enjoyed by parents, students, and
staff throughout the year, and they have brought home exceptional scores
for UIL competitions. Congratulations, Ms. Edwards. |
