Allen High School House System

The current House system at AHS continues to work and effectively serves students. Our House system appears to be well-suited to our community’s needs. The perceived advantages of the current House system include:
• Keeping a substantial group of students (500-650 students) connected to an AHS team of a House Principal, House Counselor and House Secretary.

• Physically having House offices spread throughout the campus makes it easier for students and their parents to be served. This also creates a more secure campus since administrators are not all clustered in one area.

• Students and parents know that most of their AHS needs can be met through the House offices, avoiding getting lost in a campus-wide system that would encompass 2600+ students.

• Familiarity of families within the alpha-driven House system makes transitions for younger siblings easier as parents and students have a prior point of reference, like a small high school setting would have.

• The House Principal and House Counselor can track their students’ needs, whether they are driven by grades, course selections, attendance, etc. This helps to keep students from falling between the cracks. All of the House systems revolve around the need of the individual student instead of a category or a department (ESL, Special Ed., attendance, etc.).

• The role of the House Secretary becomes extremely important. She is the gate-keeper who is always available and knows the students within her House. She can quickly help the student or parent resolve minor details (much like a good Elementary Secretary).
