Student Athletic Trainer
S.A.T. APPLICATION
Student Athletic Trainers are a vital part of a complete sports medicine program. It is imperative that their role in the program be clearly defined. Learn the correct and effective application of all tapings, bandaging, padding, etc. It is important that all students apply tape in the proper manner with a degree of proficiency.
Learn the proper first aid procedures and emergency care during the sports medicine course. At some time, you will be asked to cover a practice or event by yourself; be prepared for all emergencies.
Familiarize yourself with general training room policies (emergency procedures, medical referrals, etc.)
Assist and cooperate fully at all times with Doc, Coach Lynn, Team Physicians, and Coaches
Familiarize yourself with daily cleaning duties and CONTRIBUTE YOUR SHARE!!! The cleaning of the training room is the responsibility of EVERYONE!

In absence of Doc or Coach Lynn, you will be expected to operate the training room as if he/she were present.
Understand the game and meet procedures that include pre-game preparations, meeting visiting trainers/coaches, sideline duties/equipment, etc.
When traveling with a team, BE A PROFESSIONAL. Remember that you will create Allen High School’s image. Visiting teams and local fans will judge your appearance and actions, so exhibit a professional image.
You will also be held to the same standards as the athletes when traveling. Any sports medicine student not following the proper guidelines will be disciplined according to the procedures in the athletic/activity code.
Understand and enforce all training room policies and procedures to the best of your ability.
Understand that this job requires a major time commitment. Football practice usually lasts until 6-6:30p.m. every evening, while other sports throughout the year will last until approximately 5:30p.m. every evening.
Understand that the dress code will be enforced. If you are wearing inappropriate clothing (i.e., too short of shorts), you will be asked to leave and you will be suspended for the next event. Further action will be taken if this is not handled.
A 3 Strikes and your Out discipline policy will be in place at all times. Be aware of your choices and avoid problems that will hurt your success in the sports medicine program.
Grades are the first priority in the sports medicine program. Tutoring will be encouraged when needed and all grades need to be at a 70% or above on all 6 weeks grade reports to be eligible to participate (same as athletic eligibility). If you fail 3 times during the school year, you will be dismissed from the program until the following semester. Your schedule will be changed and you will need to reapply to be considered for re-entry. Grades will be your major determining factor in this consideration.
Sports Medicine classes will be held during the spring semester. This will cover basic topics in sports medicine that we use on a daily basis.
