In an effort to encourage all of our parents to be life-long learners, the P.T.A. has been working to organize and update our parent resource library. In this section of our Vaughan library, parents can find resources on a wide array of topics. Please feel free to search the listings of resources for a particular author, title, or topic. Many of the titles are linked to websites where you can preview the resource. If you see a material that you would like to check-out, complete the initial "Parent Resources Initial Information" form to set up an account in the Vaughan Library. Materials can then be checked out by parents during the school day, or requests can be made via email for them to be sent home with students using the "Parent Resource Library Check-Out Request" form. Paper copies of these forms are also available at the front of the school. If you have materials at home that you would like to donate to our library, any additional resources would be greatly appreciated. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: When is the library open? A: The library is open weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 2:55 p.m. Q: What if I cannot come to the library while it is open? A: Fill out a "Parent Resource Library Check-Out Request" form and send it to our librarian, Jane Carrier, or email her at jane_carrier@allenisd.org. If you have an account set-up, she can send the materials home with your child. All materials are sent home in a sealed envelope addressed to you. Q: How do I set up an account? A: A one-time-only form is needed to establish your library account. Please complete the "Parent Resources Initial Information" form and submit it to Jane Carrier either in person or via email at jane_carrier@allenisd.org. Q: The materials I am reading are not intended for children. Will my child see these materials? A: No. We realize these materials are written to an adult audience. They are kept in a room to the right of the circulation desk and are not available for students to check out. Should you request materials be sent home with your child, they will be sent in an envelope. Q: How long can I keep materials? A: We ask that you please return materials within three weeks so that other parents can share the benefit of these resources. Q: What types of materials are available? A: The parent resource library currently includes print resources and audio resources. Topics include parenting techniques, anti-bullying, discipline, communication, ADD/ADHD, strong-willed children, age-specific materials, sex education, self-esteem, etc. Q: What if I am seeking resources on topics not addressed in the parent resource library? A: The P.T.A. is currently looking to acquire additional resources. If you have suggestions of topics or titles, please fill out the "Suggestions for Additional Resources" form and email it to Susan Beazley or drop it in the P.T.A. mailbox in the office. Q: I have some great parenting resources at home that I am no longer using. Does P.T.A. accept donations? A: Yes! Donations are greatly appreciated. Please drop them off with Mrs. Beazley in the library or send them with your child. Last Modified on June 13, 2012
