District Reading Panel Campus Strategic Planning Planning Model
Priority One
     Plan for reading instruction in a way that is ongoing and includes both short and long term planning.

District Reading Panel

In order to move toward the primary objective of reading proficiency for all students, a strategic planning team will meet.  The team will integrate state and classroom goals, develop and publish curriculum strategies, assess training materials, establish timelines and publish reports of program progress. Using data collected at the campus level, the panel will determine student success and program effectiveness and revise district plans.

Representatives meet each semester to make decisions in the areas of:

  • Research-based reading programs

  • Intervention curriculum

  •  Assessment procedures

  •  Parent involvement

The District Reading panel will meet via video conferencing four times each year for the duration of the program.  Panel members will include curriculum administrators, campus teachers and administrators, technology representatives, university professors, Region Center consultants, and parent and community members.

 

Campus Strategic Planning Team

In order to meet the needs of campus populations, the site-based vertical planning teams must be created.  These teams will assess campus needs and be responsible for suggesting implementation plans.  Existing research-based reading programs, assessments, and professional development plans will be evaluated based on the needs expressed by this vertical team.  Using biannual data collected on targeted students’ achievement and data from campus assessments, this panel will determine student success and program effectiveness.  This information will be used to set objectives that meet goals of the district plan.

Representatives meet each semester to make decisions concerning:

  • Planning of curriculum goals

  • Sharing ideas through collaboration 

  • Assessing of campus needs

The Campus Strategic Planning team will meet monthly for the duration of the program.  Team members will include one teacher, one administrator and one parent from each of the targeted campuses in the school district.  Teleconferencing resources are available between campuses for collaboration between teams.
