Program Priorities

The Academics 2000 Reading Grant: Allen ISD priorities are focused on the assessment of reading readiness deficits, preventative reading layers, a reading intervention program, a volunteer initiative, and a staff development model will be accessible to our sister schools in Laredo and those accessing this information via the web.

Priority One
  • Plan for reading instruction in a way that is ongoing and includes both short and long term planning.

Priority Two
  • Provide a model for staff development to other districts through distance learning capabilities.

  • Provide assessment of students' pre-reading and reading abilities to indicate individual strengths and weaknesses.

  • Research-based literacy instruction prek-6th grade: Provide systematic and explicit preventative programs.

  • Increase reading achievement among our children with learning differences including special education, bilingual and dyslexic students.
