Message from the President

I hope everyone enjoyed their extended summer! The PTA has been busy over the summer getting ready for another great year at Reed. Thanks to your support of the PTA, the Vice President, Tammy Chase, and I attended the PTA Summer Leadership Conference in Austin in July and picked up a lot of valuable information to help improve our PTA. The rest of the PTA board has been busy as well, preparing for your children and the programs they will participate in this year. I'm sure we'll be able to count on your participation as well; there are plenty of opportunities, both large and small to choose from. If you're interested in helping, check for the flyers that will be going home in the first few weeks of school. If you let us know you're willing to help, we'll find something fun for you to do!

Our membership drive is under way and I hope you all take the time to join the Reed PTA. It gives you a voice and a choice in the programs that are sponsored by the PTA; there are also a lot of great member benefits that go along with membership! Membership forms will be sent home with your child and extras are available in the office. Please send them back in the sealed envelopes provided.

We have high expectations for the year and we hope you can help us achieve them. Our expectations are as follows:

  1. To promote the well-being of the students of Reed.
  2. To make the PTA an organization in which all people feel welcome to participate. To increase participation in PTA activities.
  3. To find programs/activities that encourages attendance at PTA general meetings.
  4. To increase the interest by the general membership in the business of the PTA.
  5. To have a knowledgeable group of chairmen so the business of the PTA is more manageable and done in the proper fashion.
  6. To network more with other PTAs in town so that we can: work in cooperation, learn from each other, help each other where and when needed.

The entire Reed PTA board hopes to make this a great year for everyone – the students, the staff, and the parents. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, just let me know, I'll do my best to address them as quickly as possible.
