Hatchet
Dear Mrs. Jergensen,

I have read a lot of books this year that I could call my favorite, but it took me about three days to realize the book Hatchet  was my favorite. My favorite genre is fiction.

Gary Paulsen is both the writer and illustrator of Hatchet.  The main character is Brian. Brian's parents are divorced and his father lives in Canada. On the way to see his father for summer vacation his plane crashed. He was the only survivor and was left with only the clothes on him and the hatchet his mom had given him. Three months after surviving on his own, eating only gut cherries and fish, he was rescued by a floating plane.

There were several things I loved about the book. I was glued to the book the whole way through and really liked the way the author explained things. I caught myself rereading paragraphs when I did not understand something, stopping and relating to things that have happened to me, and stopping to ask questions.

I think the author needed to put more pages in the book because the print was so small it hurt my eyes just to look at it.

I recommend this book to any one who is a lover of adventure!

Thank you for all you do,
Chris
