Vaughan Elementary School

The students at Vaughan are able to integrate technology directly into their daily curriculum.  We are excited to share the great technological resources we have available to our staff, parents, and students.

Vaughan Elementary has two computer labs.  The main computer lab is equipped with 48 networked student computers.  The students use this lab to access the internet, work on Lightspan assignments, practice their keyboarding skills, and use Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  We also have a Gateway Destination Station in this lab.  Teachers use this to model activities or lessons on the computer to their students, and to visit websites together.  Students also may use this Gateway to demonstrate final projects or other information to their classmates.

Our second computer lab is wireless and is called the Terminal Services Lab.  Here the students can use Internet Explorer, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.  Both labs are connected to three laser printers, one of which is color.  Teachers use both labs to extend the learning in the classroom.  They utilize the technology for enrichment, remediation, or project based learning.

Our classrooms are equipped with small computer pods.  Each classroom has at least two student computers.  The teacher has an additional computer and each grade level has its own laser printer.  Each classroom is networked and able to have access to the World Wide Web.  The district uses Web Sense to ensure that children only access sites that are appropriate for kids.

Vaughan also provides two Gateway Destination Stations for each grade level.  The teachers use their Gateways to model learning, provide access to the internet, power point presentations, etc.

We have three in focus machines that enable us to project our computers image or desktop to a large screen.  The in focus is hooked up directly to a PC or laptop.  The children can then view the material or presentations prepared by their teachers or peers!

Our school also has three video conferencing machines that enable us to conference with other classes all around the country!

Vaughan has six digital cameras that teachers can check out and use for projects and presentations.  We have a scanner available in the computer lab.  Some of our classrooms also contain scanners.  We utilize a scanner and software program called Kurzweil to help modify learning.  The Kurzweil has the capability of scanning reading material.  It will then read the material back to the child at their appropriate reading speed!

This exciting integration of technology helps our kids become prepared for the 21st century!
