About Allen ISD
The Allen Independent School District serves the rapidly growing city of Allen, Texas, a suburban community located 23 miles north of Dallas. Students from neighboring Fairview and Lucas also attend grades 10-12 in Allen.  Student enrollment has more than doubled since 1989, bringing the current number of students to approximately 15,900 in grades K-12.  These students attend one of thirteen elementary schools, three middle schools, one freshman center and one high school.

Chandler Elementary School opened in August 2006 and Mary Evans Elementary School will open August 2008 in west Allen. Elementary School #15 is scheduled to open August 2009 in east Allen.

Enrollment Increases
Allen ISD enrollment is projected to increase steadily at a rate of approximately nine percent per year over the next 10 years. Regardless of enrollment increases, Allen ISD is committed to maintaining acceptable student-to-staff ratios and class sizes through the hiring of additional staff or the distribution of students to "sister" campuses if necessary.

Elementary students enrolling in Allen ISD for the first time may be assigned to a school outside of their attendance area if no space exists in their grade level.  Parents may then choose to remain at that school or transfer back if openings at their original school become available.  See enrollments.

Texas State Accountability Ratings
Eight Allen ISD campuses were rated as Exemplary, eight earned a Recognized rating and two were rated as Academically Acceptable under the new accountability standards set by the Texas Education Agency.

The ratings are determined by the Spring 2007 TAKS results. A statewide drop in scores and ratings had been anticipated with the more rigorous test, new subjects being tested and higher standards being applied.

The campus and school district ratings are based on performance by all students and in all sub-populations identified by the State. These groups include African American, Hispanic, White and Economically Disadvantaged. Therefore a school can score at an Exemplary level as a whole, but if one of the sub-population groups score below that level, the rating drops down. The ratings are based upon four components: TAKS scores, SDAA test scores, Completion Rate and Dropout Rate.
See 2006 TEA Ratings.
