Elementary Social Studies Program
Studies include:
 
Grade Content
Kindergarten Basic Social Studies Concepts
Grade 1 Home, School, and Community
Grade 2 Community, with focus on state and nation
Grade 3 Communities past and present
Grade 4 Texas in the Western Hemisphere
Grade 5 United States Studies
Grade 6 Contemporary World Societies

Professional Development training will be provided for all AISD fifth and sixth grade Social Studies teachers presented by Teachers’ Curriculum Institute, History Alive.

Three premises behind the TCI approach:
Students learn best through multiple intelligences
Cooperative interaction increases learning gains
All students can learn via the spiral curriculum

Developed by teachers, the TCI approach consists of a series of instructional practices that allow students of all abilities to experience key social studies concepts.

Professional Development teacher timeline:
Spring 2004 > 5th and 6th
Fall 2004 > 8th, 9th, 10th &11th
Fall 2005 > 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th

There will be two district wide follow up Staff Development dates after initial training.
