Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SST Committee?
The Student Support Team (SST) is a problem-solving
committee consisting of school staff members who make
appropriate interventions and recommendations for
students who are experiencing difficulty in school.
Parents/guardians are also members of the SST committee.
Who is on the SST Committee?
An administrator, Student Support Instructor, school/house
counselor, nurse, diagnostician, case manager, the
student’s teacher and parents can be in attendance
during a SST meeting.
When are these meetings held?
When a person turns in a “Concerned Person’s Report,”
the Student Support Team will call a meeting to discuss
the issues that produced the concern. Any person can
turn in this report.
What are some of the reasons a student might be referred
to the SST committee?
Most often a student who is having academic or
behavioral difficulties will be referred to this
committee. Students are also referred to this committee
for attendance/tardy issues, emotional/health issues and
504 reviews.
What will be discussed?
Because this committee evolved to help and support a
student in need, information must be gathered related to
the identified problem. At the meeting, interventions
will be discussed and analyzed to determine how best to
serve a particular student’s needs.
Am I, the parent, involved in all meetings?
As the parent, you attend any and all SST meetings
concerning your student as his/her advocate. Your
knowledge of the student is most useful in determining
the best way to serve his/her unique needs.
What kind of information is needed for this SST meeting?
Generally student grades, attendance records, social
behaviors, physical characteristics, discipline history
and interventions that have been tried before are
helpful information to have at the meeting in order to
make future decisions to help the student.
What kind of decisions will be made?
This committee meets to determine how to help your
student be successful in school. Interventions,
modifications and accommodations all might be
possibilities that are tried in the classroom to see if
the student responds successfully.
