New 2008-09 School Year Calendar Released
The 2008-2009 School Year Calendar is now available for
download. The school year will begin on Monday, August
25 and a student holiday on September 1. Thanksgiving
vacation will run from November 24-28 and winter
vacation will extend from December 22 to January 2.
Spring vacation is set for March 16-20 and the last day
of school will be June 4.

Football Meet The Coaches Night Set For May 7
All incoming freshmen football players and their
families are invited to the Ninth Grade Meet the Coaches
Night on Wednesday, May 7 at 6 p.m. in the Lowery
Freshman Center cafeteria. Coach Tom Westerberg will
welcome incoming freshmen football players and will
introduce the Allen Eagles ninth grade football coaches.

Specht Named AHS Basketball Head Coach
Allen High School has named Steve Specht as the new
varsity boys basketball coach for 2008-2009. Specht, who
currently teaches English at Allen High School, coached
the McKinney North varsity girls program in 2005-2006
and the Frisco High School boys varsity squad from
1997-2005.

2008 Eagles Football Schedule Announced
The Allen Eagles will play six home football games in
2008 according to the varsity schedule released today.
Prior to Allen’s District 8-5A games, the Eagles will
play a series of games against winning football programs
including Longview (August 29), Rockwall (September 12),
and Euless Trinity (September 19).

Miller Takes Grand Prize At State Science Event
Camden Miller, a junior at Allen High School, won first
grand prize at the Exxon/Mobil Texas State Science and
Engineering Fair held in San Antonio on April 12. Her
project was entitled “Just Say ‘NO’: A Novel Delivery
System for the Bioregulatory Agent Nitric Oxide”.

Nine Allen HS Art Students Shine At State Event
Nine Allen High School students earned top art awards at
the Texas Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) on April
12 at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, including
one all-state gold medal winner.

Custom and Classic Car Show Roars To Allen
Working with CARS Road Show, the Foundation for Allen
Schools is hosting a custom and classic car, truck and
motorcycle show on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
in the Allen High School parking lot (300 Rivercrest
Blvd).

All-Night Tennis-A-Thon Raises Over $7,000
Over $7,300 was raised by the Allen High School Tennis
Team at their all-night Tennis-A-Thon on April 18-19.
Approximately $1,800 will be given to the Foundation For
Allen Schools for student and teacher scholarships.

Bowling Team Wins State Title
The Texas High School Bowling Club crowned the Allen
High School Boys Bowling Team state champions at the
year’s final tournament held on March 29 at Copperfield
Bowl in Houston.
The girls bowling team placed third in the state
tournament.

Board of Trustees Election Voting Begins April 28
The Allen Independent School District Board of Trustees
election will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 7 a.m.-7
p.m. Early voting will begin on April 28 and end on May
6. Voting will be
held at the Allen Municipal Court building adjacent to
City Hall.
