Three weeks into his new role as superintendent, Dr. Ken
Helvey can’t imagine a better place to be than among
16,000+ students.
“It has been a great visiting our
campuses these first few weeks and I appreciate the warm
welcome the parents and staff have shown towards me,”
said Helvey. “The school year began in July as staff
prepared for the opening of school but nothing compares
with the excitement of students and parents on the first
day.”
The
Board of Trustees named Helvey to follow retiring
superintendent Dr. Jenny Preston. He served as assistant
superintendent for administrative services in Allen ISD
for the past five years. He held a similar position with
Nacogdoches ISD from 2000 – 2001. He previously held
positions of director of finance and technology with
Graham ISD and assistant principal at Graham High School
and also Graham Junior High School. He held the post of
athletic director and head football coach at S & S CISD
in Sadler, Texas from 1992 – 1995. Dr. Helvey began his
career as a vocational agriculture teacher in Anna,
Texas and also taught in Celina and Denison from
1983-1988.
