Dr. Ken Helvey,
Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Ken Helvey has served as Allen
ISD's Superintendent of Schools since August 2006. He
previously served as Allen ISD's assistant
superintendent for student services from 2001 until his
appointment in 2006. He held a similar position with
Nacogdoches ISD from 2000 – 2001.
He previously held positions of
director of finance and technology with Graham ISD and
assistant principal at Graham High School and also
Graham Junior High School. He held the post of athletic
director and head football coach at S & S CISD in
Sadler, Texas from 1992 – 1995. Dr. Helvey began his
career as a vocational agriculture teacher in Anna,
Texas and also taught in Celina and Denison from
1983-1988.
Dr. Helvey completed work on his doctorate degree in May
2006 from the University of North Texas. He received
both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from
Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He
graduated from Howe High School in 1979.
Sheri Sides, Deputy
Superintendent

Sheri Sides was appointed to the role
of Deputy Superintendent in April 2007. She previously
held the post of assistant superintendent for human
resources for Allen ISD.
She came to Allen in 2000 from
Pottsboro, Texas, where she served as assistant
superintendent for business and personnel. She held a
similar post for the Graham ISD for 5 years.
She began her teaching career at Tom
Bean ISD in Tom Bean, Texas where she taught English and
Journalism. She later served as a counselor, and
administrator for Tom Bean ISD including four years as
Superintendent of Schools.
Degrees include a master's degree from
East Texas State University in education and counseling,
and a bachelor's degree in English and journalism from
the University of North Texas. She graduated from Teague
High School in Teague, Texas in 1974.

Patrons wishing to contact the
Superintendent of Schools regarding a specific school, teacher or child, are
encouraged to begin at the level closest to the concern.

school-wide concern, this becomes step one.)
Step Three Contact the Assistant
Superintendent responsible for the area of concern:
Curriculum & Instruction, Finance, Human Resources,
Student Services
Step Four Contact the Superintendent of
Schools or designee
Step Five Contact the Board of Trustees
Citizens wishing to express themselves
regarding school district policy, boundaries, finances,
or other responsibilities of the Board which have not
been placed on a regular meeting agenda are encouraged to use
one or more of these alternatives.

open forum which is
held at the start of each monthly meeting.

E-Mail the Team of Eight.
Letters to the Team of Eight are sent to the Board
of Trustee members, the Superintendent of Schools
and the Public Information Officer. When
possible, the Public Information Office will respond
to the patron with additional information regarding
their concern or request. Board members also receive
copies of all responses to patrons.
