We are set to enjoy the journey with the Bolin Dream Team!  On the quest for adventure, our student explorers will continue to systematically, sequentially, and cumulatively learn new strategies to help them read and spell with confidence!
This year begins my sixth year as the dyslexia therapist at Bolin.  I actually started at Bolin as a student teacher 15 years ago in second grade, then as a classroom 2nd grade teacher for four years and moved on to teach students in K-6 that were struggling in reading and math through SSI for four more years.  Before Bolin, I taught preschool at a Primrose School and at Apple Creek Private Preschoo (now, Kindergarten Prep)l in Allen as well as taught college students at the University of North Texas in early childhood education.
To become a CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist), I pursued my training at McKinney Christian Academy Multisensory Teacher Training (an accredited program of ALTA, IMSLEC, and Scottish Rite Hospital) and in the summer of 2014, I began training to become a Qualified Instructor to help other teachers become dyslexia therapists, too.  This summer, I trained two groups of teachers and will support them throughout the next two years as they become dyslexia therapists, too.  I am also a Licenced Dyslexia Therapist (LDT) with the State of Texas.
I grew up in Kansas in a small farming community and graduated from Emporia State University with a BS and MS degree in Psychology and Business.  My teacher education came later at the University of North Texas.
I'm married to the most amazing husband, Terry - we'll celebrate 30 years this fall.  I have two children, James, a graduate from Texas State Technical College in Waco, beginning his first post-college job, and Megan, a sophomore at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, and care for my sister, Marty and her friend, Wayne (both are adults with intellectual disabilitys and other special needs.)  We are all active in our church where my husband and I are involved with the youth. We have lived in the Plano/Allen area for almost 25 years.
I enjoy movies, collecting MANY children's books, quilting, traveling (New York is one of my favorite places - ask me about my recent trips!) and always learning new things.  My classroom is decorated with owls to promote a scholarly theme (a carryover from Scott's Scholars when I taught 2nd grade.)
If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns - be sure to let me know!  I'm here to support each student to become the best they can be!
