Hello, I'm Mrs. McMellan!
A little bit about me:
I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Texas when I was a little over a year old (not fast enough as far as I'm concerned!) I grew up in Roanoke, Southlake and Flower Mound. I graduated from Edward S. Marcus High School and the University of Texas at Dallas. I was originally an accounting major, but after tutoring my friends in high school and college; then children of friends, I realized that it was my calling to teach Mathematics. This is my 15th year working at W.E. Pete Ford Middle School; I have taught Math 7, 8 & Algebra I Advanced.
Math is not easy for everyone nor does everyone find it interesting or fun. My goal is make math fun, interesting and understandable for ALL students!
I love technology and use it whenever possible and encourage my students to appropriately do so as well.
My husband, Aaron, and I have been together for 18 years. He is retired from The United States Marine Corps. We have one child, Aidan, who turned 4 at the end of May. I have a dog named Mack who will be 15 years old at Christmas and is a Queensland Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog). I love all animals, but life wouldn't be the same without a dog!!
In my spare time I enjoy playing golf, snowboarding, archery, needlepoint, origami, doing crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, crafting, baking, watching sports (mostly baseball), playing with my dog and spending time with my family.
I am a HUGE Texas Rangers baseball fan. I am also a fan of UT Longhorn college football, Dallas Mavericks & Dallas Cowboys.
I love to travel. I have been to 20 out the 50 states and 3 other countries: Canada, Mexico and Japan. My favorite place is the Rocky Mountain National Park; the mountains, rivers, animals and nature are amazing!
My Favorite Quotes:
"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe." ~ Anatole France
"We immediately become more effective when we decide to change ourselves rather than asking things to change for us." ~Stephen Covey
