4th Grade FAQ’s

    Norton Elementary 2018-2019

Below, you will find a brief introduction to Fourth grade. Fourth grade's behavioral emphasis is on fostering independence and taking responsibility for choices.

    Norton Knight Expectations:

Keep hands, feet, and objects to self.

    Never disrupt learning.

    Interact positively with others.

    Get attention appropriately.

    Hear and follow instructions.

Take responsibility for their own actions and learning.

Strive to make good choices and be the best that they can be.

    Wednesday Folders

Each Wednesday, the Norton folder will come home that includes communication about Norton events, fourth grade information, and forms to be completed/signed and returned.  Please read the information included and send anything back that needs to be returned the next day. Please remember that it is your child’s responsibility to check their Wednesday folder for any forms that must be turned in to the teacher.

As a general guideline, students will be assigned homework Monday through Thursday.  Math homework will be assigned most days.  Students will be required to read independently a minimum of four nights weekly for 30 minutes.  Science and social studies will be as needed.

    Science Lab

Students will have a science lab every Friday. In order to maximize their hands-on-science experience please try to limit removing your student from school on Friday’s during their lab.

Email is the best way to contact your child's teacher.  We make every effort to respond to emails within 24 hours, so please be patient and know we will respond to you as soon as we are able.   Some days we have meetings or other commitments and don't have an opportunity to check, so please notify the office if it is an emergency or a change in dismissal.

    Grading Policy and Procedures

Ten points will be deducted from the assignment grade each day it is late – up to 3 days.

Students will be given one day for every excused absence to complete missed assignments.  Any previously assigned, long-term assignments will still be due on the original due date regardless of any absence, unless arrangements have been made with the teacher.

If your child misses two days or more of school, please call or email to request make-up work.  Make-up work, including books will be sent to the front desk by 3:00 p.m. and can be collected there.  Please plan to pick up work at the end of the day as it is difficult to guarantee we will have time to gather assignments during the day.

Ultimately, it is the student’s responsibility to complete late and/or make-up assignments promptly.  It is our desire that these procedures will help maintain consistency and encourage student responsibility as the students grow and mature.  If there is ever a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
