Mr. Charles Black - Music Teacher
Mr. Black is now in his ninth year of teaching music at Anderson. If you ask him what he thinks about it, he will always tell you that he loves his job! After spending forty years in church music and media ministry, he says his passion for teaching music to children has now become his "dream job." He has previously taught elementary music part-time for four years in the Mabank, Texas, school district. His church music experience included directing church choirs and vocal ensembles of all ages, church orchestras and instrumental ensembles, in addition to leading the music for churches in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Illinois. During that time, he directed choirs that had the privilege of performing at places such as the United States Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs, as well as to audiences with the United States President's family in attendance. Mr. Black's media experience involved working as the general manager for two local broadcast television stations in Arkansas and Louisiana, as well as hosting a live daily morning talk show, and even two different children's television programs!
Mr. Black has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Communications, and is a certified teacher in Music (EC-12th grade), General Education (EC-4th grade), Special Education (EC-12th grade), and ESL (EC-12th grade). He is also a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, Organization of American Kodaly Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
Mr. Black was recently chosen from over 6000 Quaver teachers by the staff at Quaver Music to appear as their Featured "Super Teacher" on their February, 2016, nationwide webinar.
That webinar can still be viewed at:
Mr. Black is also a current feature writer for the Quaver blog.

Peaches (their Yorkie-Poo) is actually the real boss of the Black house. :)
Mr. Black's hobbies (in addition to music) include woodworking, gardening, cooking, and taking walks with Mrs. Black and Peaches. Whenever Mr. Black is asked about the favorite part of his job, he says it is "seeing his students come into the music room anticipating a real musical experience, and leaving with smiles on their faces!" He says he is certainly looking forward to the 2019-2020 school year at Anderson, where we will be making music while "Navigating for Success."
