Examination of Acceleration (EOA)
Please note: As a result of school closures due to the Coronavirus pandemic, changes to the June and July dates (as well as registration deadlines and processes) may become necessary. Please monitor this page for additional information as it becomes available. Thank you.The examination of acceleration is available for Allen ISD students (kindergarten through grade 8) who wish to skip an entire grade level. Students will test for mastery of math, language arts, science, and social studies material for the grade level through which they wish to accelerate. The Examination of Acceleration is not offered on a subject-by-subject basis. Exam content is based upon the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Current legislation requires students to score an 80 percent or higher on each of the individual four tests that are taken at the same time. The District may accelerate an Allen ISD student currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8 if the student meets the following requirements:
- The student scores 80% or above on a criterion-referenced test for the grade level to be skipped in each of the following areas: language arts, math, science, and social studies
- District/Campus representative recommends that the student be accelerated
- Student's parent or guardian gives written approval of the acceleration
Official score results will be communicated to a student's parent/guardian and home campus after testing. If the student has met the score requirements indicated above, campus personnel and parent/guardian will discuss best placement for the student with consideration given to potential academic, social, developmental, and emotional needs and the impact of acceleration in each area. Acceleration may be recommended on a probationary basis.Note: If your child does accelerate to the next grade level based upon the above requirements, there is no guarantee that your child will remain at his/her current campus. If there are no openings on the grade level into which your child accelerates, he/she will attend a different Allen ISD campus if you choose to accelerate your child to the next grade level. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
Kindergarten AccelerationChildren who are 5 years of age on or before September 1 and who are enrolled in Allen Independent School District may qualify for kindergarten acceleration testing (subject to published EOA registration deadlines). Students who meet the acceleration criteria (as indicated above) may be promoted into first grade. Kindergarten acceleration testing is available in June and July.Allen ISD strongly encourages all learners to participate in Kindergarten due to the social, developmental,
emotional, and academic benefits this grade level provides. Some students may have received Kindergarten instruction through a TEA-accredited private school. TEA-accreditation requires a review of curriculum to ensure alignment to the Kindergarten Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Should parent/guardian provide written documentation of child's completion of kindergarten instruction through a TEA-accredited private school, this student will be considered as a "with prior instruction" tester and must then achieve a score of 70 percent or above on each of the individual subject area tests indicated above.Students without prior instruction from a TEA-accredited school must score an 80 percent or above on each of the individual subject area tests.TEA-accreditation status of private schools may be verified through the website for the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission.
