• Memorial Scholarships

    Alex P. Underwood, Jr. Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 
    Given in memory of Alex P. Underwood, Jr. by the Underwood-Yobp family, this scholarship honors the dedication and perseverance of high school athletes who have worked hard both in the classroom and as a member of their school team. It may be awarded to a male or female athlete who participated in football, golf, baseball, softball, or volleyball during their high school career.

    Angela Marie Guest Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 each (multiple awarded)
    An endowed scholarship established by the Mark and Susan Guest family in memory of their daughter, Angela Marie Guest, a 2009 graduate of AHS. Awarded to  students with a strong history of community service who intend to pursue a career in the medical field or have a learning difference. An additional scholarship, new for the class of 2020, will be awarded to a student that attended Boon Elementary School. 

    Angie Brown Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
    An endowed scholarship given in memory of Angie Brown and funded by family and friends of Angie and Niel Brown and their Chick-fil-A family and community friends. This scholarship is awarded to a Chick-fil-A  Allen employee who has demonstrated a dedication to academics, a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and has been involved in community service. This individual has demonstrated high standards of character, outstanding citizenship and a strong role model of servant leadership at school, at work and in the community.

    Anthony and Eric Vita Memorial Scholarship – $2,000
    An endowed scholarship established by the Evangeline Vita family in memory of her son, Eric Vita and also her husband, Dr. Anthony Vita. Awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in the medical field.

    Betty Timbs Memorial Scholarship – $500 each (multiple awarded)
    Awarded to students with family financial needs, demonstrated work ethic and leadership qualities, volunteer experience and a determination to achieve their goals.  Preference will be given to students studying in the Sociology field or those who have overcome a challenge or hardship to successfully complete their high school career.

    Bolin Family Nursing Scholarship – $1,000
    Established in memory of Kenneth and Jo Bolin, this scholarship is awarded to a student who plans a career in the nursing field. Criteria include a strong work ethic and demonstrated leadership, participation in volunteer activities, and plans to attend a public or private university. Preference is given to a student who has attended Allen ISD schools for most of their high school career.

    Brooke Cherry Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    This scholarship is given in memory of Brooke Cherry, a longtime educator and principal at Marion Elementary School. This scholarship will be awarded to a Marion Elementary alum who has been involved in volunteer service at school or in the community, has shown strong leadership skills, and has a love of learning, as was Mrs. Cherry’s goal for every student.   

    Caitlin Marie Owens Memorial Scholarship  – $2,000 (New for 2023)
    This scholarship is awarded by Bruce and Cindy Heller in memory of their niece, Caitlin Marie Owens. Caitlin was a teacher in Austin, Texas, who inspired her elementary students to love learning as much as she did. She brought great joy to her family and friends, was passionate about spending time outdoors, and especially loved hiking with her dog, Murphy. Caitlin approached life with a spirit of compassion and kindness for all. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates these same qualities and plans to become a teacher. 

    Carolyn Kerr Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Established by Jim Kerr and his family in honor of his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Kerr, this scholarship is awarded to a student who attended Kerr Elementary School and has shown dedication to their studies and to volunteer involvement. Mrs. Kerr was a successful businesswoman and long-time Allen resident who supported education in her community.   

    Connie M. Buntley Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Awarded in memory of Mrs. Connie M. Buntley by her husband, Joel Buntley, to a student who demonstrates a strong work ethic, has dealt with economic or family challenges as they prepare for college, and maintains at least a B average in their classes. Preference will be given to students majoring in math, science, engineering, medicine, the legal field or someone planning a career in education.

    Debra Beer Memorial Scholarship – $2,000 (multiple awarded) (New for 2023)
    Awarded in memory of Debra Beer by her daughter, Kelly Pearson of Kelly Pearson Realty Group, who put her dreams of getting a medical degree on hold due to family circumstances. These scholarships will be awarded to students who want to pursue a career in the medical field. 

    Dr. Gary E. Hefner Memorial Scholarship – $1,500
    This scholarship is given in memory of beloved Allen veterinarian Dr. Gary Hefner. Dr. Hefner attended Allen schools, lettered in all four sports and graduated as Salutatorian in 1964 with a class of 18 students. He received his veterinary training at Texas A&M University. This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a career in agriculture or veterinary medicine who has shown a strong work ethic with a GPA of at least 3.0, and has demonstrated a dedication to family and community.

    Emily Stambaugh Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Awarded in memory of Emily Stambaugh, a member of the AHS class of 2014, to a student who has participated in athletics during their high school career for at least one year and has demonstrated a strong work ethic, leadership, and volunteer service.

    Erin Valenta Memorial Scholarship given by Allen Band Booster Association – $1,000 
    Established by the Allen Band Booster Association in memory of Erin Valenta, a member of the Allen Eagle Escadrille and graduate of the AHS Class of 2016. Awarded to students who are current members of the Escadrille and commitment to community service, preference may be given to a student who plans to work towards a career related to music.

    Firefighter William Scott Tanksley Memorial Scholarship – $2,000 (New for 2023)
    Established by the Tanksley family in memory of William Scott Tanksley who was killed in the line of duty on February 10, 2014. Scott was a minor league baseball pitcher and was drafted into the Minnesota Twins Minor League Organization in 1995 from Mississippi State University. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated leadership, has a strong work ethic, and has volunteered in the community. Preference is given to a student who has overcome hardship, who will play sports in college, or who has plans to become a firefighter. 

    Fred Hansen Memorial STEM Scholarship for Women – $1,500 
    Awarded to a female student who plans to study in the area of science, technology, engineering or math. This scholarship honors the legacy of Mr. Fred Hansen and his dedication to the value of hard work and encouraging his five daughters to obtain their degrees in higher education. Preference will be given to a student who attended Boyd Elementary School.

    Fulk Family Scholarship for Engineering given in memory of Nancy Athy Roberts and James Alan Buck – $1,000
    Awarded by the Ken and Susan Fulk family in memory of Nancy Athy Roberts (Susan's mother) and James Alan Buck (Susan's brother-in-law). Awarded to a student who will attend Texas A&M University majoring in Engineering. The selected student will have demonstrated a strong work ethic, financial need, a commitment to completing their education, a history of volunteer service, and a record of strong academics.

    Fulk Family Scholarship for Engineering given in memory of Thomas Francis Roberts and Ruby May Fulk – $1,000
    Awarded by the Ken and Susan Fulk family in memory of Thomas Francis Roberts (Susan's father) and Ruby May Fulk (Ken's mother). Awarded to a student who will attend Texas A&M University majoring in Engineering with preference for mechanical or architectural engineering with a mechanical systems specialty; enrollment in the TAMU Corps of Cadets is not required but appreciated. The selected student will have demonstrated a strong work ethic, financial need, a commitment to completing their education, a history of volunteer service, and a record of strong academics.

    Gayle Boon Memorial Scholarship – $2,500
    An endowed scholarship established by Dr. E.T. Boon and his daughters in memory of Gayle Boon, a long-time Allen resident and an active community and school volunteer. Awarded to a deserving student who has also dedicated time to volunteer work at school or in the community and shows dedication to meeting their educational goals. 

    Gene M. Reed, Jr. Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 (New for 2023)
    Established by the Reed family, this scholarship is offered to a student who will be attending a public college or university and plans to major in education and become a classroom teacher. Preference will be given to students who attended Reed Elementary School, who demonstrate academic ability, and who have a need for financial assistance.
     

    Jacob Scudder Memorial Scholarship – $500
    This scholarship is given in memory of Jacob Scudder who attended Allen ISD and was a student at Ford Middle School. Jacob loved the outdoors and athletics.  The scholarship will be awarded to someone who attended Ford Middle School for 7th and 8th grade, has shown a commitment to their academics, and has been involved in athletics and/or outdoor physical education classes. This scholarship is made possible by teachers and staff in Allen ISD.

    John Art Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    This scholarship is given in memory of Mr. John Art, a long-time Allen resident and avid Allen ISD supporter of his loving family. It will be awarded to a well-rounded student with preference for someone interested in arts education, performing arts or music, and/or public service.

    Kathy Daley Memorial Scholarship – $500 
    Awarded in memory of Kathy Daley, a long-time teacher and head of the Special Education Department at Allen High School. Mrs. Daley believed every student had the potential to succeed; this scholarship is made possible by donations from friends, family and teachers from Allen High School. 

    Kyle Murray Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 
    Awarded in memory of Kyle Murray, who attended Anderson Elementary School and loved going to school and learning, adored animals, and very much enjoyed painting and the arts. Awarded to students who plan to study in a field related to animals, education, or art.   

    Laura J. Underwood Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Given in memory of Laura J. Underwood by the Underwood-Yobp family, this scholarship is awarded to a student who has worked hard to succeed despite their learning differences and has completed challenging academic classes. The student selected for this scholarship exemplifies a love of learning and dedication to achieving their goals.  

    Mac and Sheila Curtis Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Given in honor of longtime Allen residents Mac and Sheila Curtis, this scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing an education in agriculture or in a trade. Preference is given to a student who exhibits servant leadership and community awareness.

    Mitchell Meade Smithwick Memorial Scholarship – $1,500 each (multiple awarded) (New for 2023)
    Mitchell grew up in Allen and was a 1984 graduate of Allen High School. He attended Texas A&M University and passed away at the age of 20 in College Station. His family is awarding this scholarship in memory of their precious son and brother, and with the hope that it will make the path towards higher education a bit easier for another Allen Eagle. This scholarship will be awarded to a determined, hard-working student with a clear goal for their future. 

    Nancy Ann Lakvold Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    This scholarship is in memory of Nancy Ann Lakvold, a dedicated teacher and medical professional who was a vital part of the Health Science Program at Allen High School. Awarded to a student who has shown leadership and success working with a group, a strong work ethic, and intends to major in the Health Science field in college.

    Preston Cooper James Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 each (multiple awarded)
    Established by Tammie and Joe James in memory of Preston Cooper James who attended Allen ISD schools from elementary through his middle school years.  Preston was humble, kind and had a true servant’s heart. He was a dedicated student who did not let anything hold him back from excelling in all academic endeavors, while also devoting his time and energy to serving his community. Preston inspired others to become better versions of themselves. Awarded to a student(s) demonstrating a strong work ethic and a sincere dedication to service and high academic performance. 

    Rodenbaugh Family Scholarship – $1,500 each (multiple awarded)
    An endowed scholarship was established by the Constance Rodenbaugh family in memory of her husband, Don Rodenbaugh, former Allen mayor. Awarded to a student who plans to attend a two-year college, technical or trade school, or a program that provides hands-on training or certifications in a specific field. It may also be given to a student(s) who has overcome a hardship or shown outstanding determination to achieve their goals.

    Roger and Ella Jo Adams Scholarship to Texas A&M– $1,000
    This endowed scholarship is awarded in memory of Roger and Ella Jo Adams. Mr. Adams was a graduate of and staunch supporter of Texas A&M University. Mrs. Adams was a beloved teacher at Allen High School for many years. Together they supported her students and the Allen community in numerous ways. This scholarship, awarded by their son Brent Adams, goes to a student who plans to attend TAMU at College Station or Galveston.

    Ruby Nelle and Jiggs Barfield Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 
    An endowed scholarship fund was established by Neil and Mary Fonville in honor of Neil’s grandparents. One scholarship is awarded to a student with an interest in the aviation industry, wildlife and land management, or environmental studies. The second scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to study agriculture, livestock management, farming or a career related to those fields. Awarded to students who have demonstrated the ability to dream big and work hard to achieve those dreams.

    Scott Limpert Memorial Scholarship – $500 each (multiple awarded)
    Awarded in memory of Scott Limpert, a father of Allen ISD students and a lifelong advocate for sports and physical fitness. Awarded to students involved in athletics, cheerleading, mascots or trainers and who have demonstrated leadership skills and a strong work ethic in school and their extracurricular activities.

    Sharla Adams Memorial Scholarship – $1,250 
    Awarded in memory of Mrs. Sharla Adams who was a much-loved and inspiring educator who taught in Allen ISD for many years. Awarded to a student planning to study either education or science and who has demonstrated dedication to volunteer service during their school career.

    Spencer Squire Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 each (multiple awarded)
    Awarded in memory of Spencer Squire who was an extraordinary young student whose love of learning and enjoyment of life inspired all who knew him.  This scholarship will be awarded to a student who also possesses these qualities and has dedicated themselves to doing their best academically while enjoying involvement in school and community activities and service opportunities.

    The Burcu Hezar Memorial Scholarships Empowering Women in STEM – $5,000 each (multiple awarded) (New for 2023)
    These two scholarships are awarded in memory of Burcu Hezar, who attended Allen High School, had a servant's heart for others, and was dedicated to achieving excellence in her academic pursuits.  The scholarships will be awarded to two young women who also have a passion for learning, have demonstrated a commitment to volunteering, and plan to pursue a career in the STEM fields.  

    Tyler L. Washington Memorial Scholarship – $1,000
    Established by Tony and Tamika Washington in memory of their son Tyler.  Awarded to a student who demonstrates leadership ability, a strong GPA, and volunteer service in school or their community who plans to study business administration, management or a business related field. 

    Zach Hoefler Memorial Scholarship – $1,000 each (multiple awarded)
    Awarded in memory of Zach Hoefler, a 2017 graduate of Allen High School and a member of the Allen Eagles football team. This scholarship honors the characteristics which set Zach apart: infectious optimism, energy and enthusiasm, compassion for others, and a dedication to volunteer service.
