Coach Dobson

Welcome! I am Patricia Dobson and am extremely honored and thrilled to be at Boyd Elementary! I am dedicated to doing my best, and my hope is to continue to establish an enriching classroom environment where our students grow, excel, love learning, and continue to be successful!

I have 15 years public school teaching experience and 9 years of private preschool teaching experience. I actually started my teaching career in Allen ISD straight out of college! My husband of 28 years and I have four incredibly diverse children - ages 25, 23, 21 and 18.  I was a working mom and later a stay at home mom. While raising children, I had the privilege to spend time establishing a nonprofit organization for children and pursued other adventures involving my children. No matter where my pathways led me, I keep coming full circle to my passion of teaching!  So, I am truly excited to be here and help in any way!

This 2020 fall, in all its uniqueness, will be my 2nd year at Boyd. I started teaching 3rd grade at Vaughan Elementary when it first opened its doors in 1989! After getting married, I taught 2nd grade in Arlington ISD, then back in Allen at Vaughan.  After having two children, I became a stay at home mom which was one of the most difficult and rewarding adventures that I have ever faced.  While being a mom, I raised two additional children with my four biological children and created a intricate chess program for private and public schools and have taken kids to USCF tournaments. I taught summer chess camps where I have been referred to as "Coach Dobson" and have even orchestrated USCF tournaments in our area.  I was thrilled to start our chess club at Boyd!

My education includes a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M, Commerce with an emphasis in mathematics. I have always been the type of person that absolutely loves learning . . . I read, attend workshops, and expand my knowledge as much as I can.  Learning is very rewarding!  I have expanded my certification by adding my ESL supplemental and EC K-6.

On a personal note, I grew up traveling often as a child.  My mother was an immigrant with little formal education and was raised without indoor plumbing or electricity.  My father was a "poor farmer boy" from Alabama who joined the Army and met my mother while stationed in Germany.  I was born at West Point Military Academy, lived at military bases across the U. S. including White Sands Missile Range, Ft. Hood in Texas, and lived in Europe when I was a preteen.  After my father retired from the Army, we drove through Allen on route to McKinney and thought the small town of 8,000 people was quaint and adorable.  I knew Allen when there were only 2 grocery stores and 1 red light (at McDermott & Greenville) -- which blinked red after midnight!  My AHS graduating class had 152 students!  So, I am so proud to be working in Allen ISD as my heart truly is here!

I am here to help your child grow and learn.  Our situation this year will be unique and have its challenges, but I am dedicated to help us through it!  I look forward to a fun, rewarding, and fantastic year!
