Aloha 6th Grader,
Welcome to 6th grade and Mrs. Weeks’ Surfers! I am thrilled to have you in my homeroom this year.
In 6th grade, we have 4 teachers so you will have 4 blocks. In my class, we will continue our journey in reading and writing. I am looking forward to a fun-filled year of discovery and building our own community of readers and authors!
Come to room B225 for Meet the Teacher night this Monday, August 12th, from 4:30 –6:00 and check out our beach-themed homeroom. Room B225 is located on the 2nd floor. Please make sure to bring your school supplies with you to drop off and meet me. If you ordered a wrap pack, it will be here waiting for you! You may visit the other 6th grade classrooms, but you will receive your daily class schedule on the first day of school. The other 6th grade teachers in our rotation are Mrs. Gant, Mrs. Perkin, and Mrs. DeLeon.
Another important “to do” will be to purchase an agenda for $5 in the cafeteria (cash or check only). Agendas are required in 6th grade and will be available in the office after Meet the Teacher night.
Parents – In an effort to make things more efficient, we have created a “Meet the Teacher Survey” in Google to fill out before you come to Meet the Teacher night. This will just take a few minutes to fill out and will be necessary to know how your child will go home on Wednesday and then the rest of the year. Please click on the link below or go to my website to complete.
Parents & Students – We use Remind.com to communicate information. Please sign up for text reminders for Homeroom by texting the number 81010 and in the message box type @weeks225hr. To receive reminders for ELA specifically (quiz/test reminders ect), text 81010 and in the message box type @cowboys225.
*We are looking for 6th grade parents to help photocopy, plan our end of year celebration, or be room parent. Please let me know if you are interested.
*If you would like to volunteer in our classrooms or go with us on a field trip, please complete the online background check as soon as possible.
Dismissal – To make dismissal run as smoothly as possible, please refer to our dismissal map link below prior to the first day of school. https://www.allenisd.org/cms/lib/TX01001197/Centricity/ModuleInstance/52597/Traffic%20Flow%20Map%202019-20.pdf
Let me share a little about me. I have been teaching for 7 years and 6 of them have been in 6th grade. This is my fourth year at Olson and I love being an Otter! I was in sales for 16 years before becoming a teacher. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 21 years this year and we have 3 kids (all Olson Otters) – a daughter who is a senior at AHS, a son who is a freshman at Lowery, and a 5th grade son right down the hall! I am a breast cancer survivor, 5 years cancer free! Some of my favorite things include: the beach, Hawaii, cooking, reading, yoga, the Dallas Cowboys, the Baylor Bears, running, and watching my kiddos play LOTS of sports!
I look forward to working with you and your family throughout the school year. My door is always open to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. It’s going to be a fantastic year! I can’t wait to see you at Meet the Teacher night!
