Anderson Elementary Counseling Program
Mission Statement:
The School Counseling Program at Evans provides a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. In partnership with educators, families, and the community, our counseling program ensures that all Anderson All-Stars have support, knowledge, and skills to realize their full potential.
Counseling Services & Delivery System:
1. School Guidance Curriculum: classroom instruction, group activities, interdisciplinary curriculum
2. Responsive Services: consultation, individual and small-group counseling, crisis counseling/response, referrals
· Individual & small group counseling is conducted for a variety of reasons (ie: behavioral concerns, attendance concerns, academic concerns, family/life changes, friendship issues, anxiety)
3. Individual Student Planning: individual or small-group appraisal or advisement
4. System Support: professional development, consultation, collaboration and teaming, program management and operation
Elementary School Counselors help students:
· achieve academic goals
· develop a better understanding and acceptance of themselves
· cope with life changes
· develop problem solving and decision making skills
· develop emotionally and socially
· begin to develop career goals
Elementary School Counselors help school staff:
· understand and meet students' personal, social, emotional, academic, and behavioral needs
Elementary School Counselors help parents:
· understand their child's emotions and behaviors
· access community resources when needed
· with strategies to use at home with problem behaviors
Classroom Guidance Strands:
Based on the Texas Education Agency's model, Allen I.S.D. has included eight strands for the Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program. These strands are the basis for instruction at every grade level.

Guidance Curriculum:
Allen ISD Counselors provide guidance in these areas throughout the school year in alignment with Texas law and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets and Behaviors.
