The Curtis Girls Coaching Staff would like to welcome you to Curtis Cougar Girls Athletics. Here at Curtis our goals are to teach and build. We  teach good sportsmanship, build good character, and instill positive self-esteem and discipline in all of our young athletes. Athletics is NOTHING like regular PE class. In athletics the practices are intense, focused, and designed to challenge each athlete and to improve their overall skill set. Athletics is for those individuals who are hard-working, self-disciplined and want to improve themselves as an athlete. We do a great deal of running in athletics so if you don’t want or like to run and condition, then athletics is not for you.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19, all sports' schedules have been pushed back to later dates. As of right now, there will be NO volleyball or basketball tournaments held. Additionally, information about track and cross country will be provided at a later date.

Sports Offered: Volleyball , Basketball, Track (an after school sport-no athletic period), Tennis, and Golf.  The coaches will provide more detailed information to the students.

7th Grade: If your daughter is interested in trying out for volleyball, they have been placed in 1st period athletics.  After the conclusion of volleyball tryouts, they will remain in 1st period athletics if they make the team. If they do NOT make the team and DO NOT wish to try out for basktball, they will be placed in a PE class. This may involve some slight schedule changes.  If your daughter signed up for basketball, they will already be placed in 1st Period Athletics.  This does not automatically mean they have made the team.  Official tryouts will not be until the end of November. More information will be provided to the students.

8th Grade: If your daughter was a member of the volleyball or basketball team as a 7th grader, and wants to continue to play, she should already have 8th Period Athletics on her schedule.

*Athletic Physicals: Every athlete is required by UIL to have a physical completed by a physician before trying out for a sport. The athlete WILL NOT be allowed to tryout without an annual physical on file in the athletic department. The earliest a physical can be completed for the 2020-21 school year is May 1st, 2020. Due to COVID-19, we encourage parents to submit the physical form virtually to the grade level coach for the sport your daughter is participating in. The form can be downloaded from our Curtis webpage, under athletics in the left margin.

All other necessary forms need to be completed using the Rank One Sports link on our athletic page.

Athletic Clothing: All athletes are required to wear our school issued black shorts and issued red shirt every day during their Athletic period and during practice.  We will be issuing 2 sets to each girl.  Extra sets will be available for purchase. You do not have to have the required clothing to try out for a sport. Upon making a team, the clothing will be issued to the athlete. Volleyball will need knee pads (not issued by CMS).

Volleyball Tryouts: Will begin on September 2nd. There may be different locations so please make sure to pay close attention to the site where the try-out will be held for that particular day. Please go to: Allen Eagles Volleyball website for all the tryout information. Click on "tryouts", "middle schools", then "Curtis" for specific information including times and locations.

Each girl MUST have a physical and ALL RANK ONE digital forms completed BEFORE trying out!

Basketball Tryouts:  will begin in late November. 7th grade athletes will tryout before school and during 1st period athletics. 8th grade athletes will tryout during last period and after school. If you are not in athletics, you are still able to try out before or after school with the corresponding grade. There are 3 teams for both 7th and 8th grade (A, B, C). 7th grade plays on Monday nights and 8th grade girls will play on Thursday nights. The times are 5:30, 6:30 & 7:30 (C, B, A order).

Track & Field Tryouts:  Track start dates will be given at a later date. Track practice is primarily held after school until approximately 4;30 pm . Any girl may try out for specific event/s each week. The top 3 athletes in each event will compete in the weekly track meet.  ALL runners have to have a physical form on file with the coaches before trying out for track. The track meets are on Thursday evenings.

Golf Tryouts: golf and tennis are co-ed sports. Golf tryouts are ONE DAY, September 15th @ 4:30 pm, located at The Courses at Watters Creek. Coach Shaw must know that you are trying out BEFORE the date of the tryout. Tennis tryouts will be determined at a later date. The golf schedule will be played during the fall semester & tennis will be played during the spring semester. ALL athletes must have a physical form and all RANKONE forms completed before trying out. Questions? Please email: bryan.shaw@allenisd.org.

CMS Teams:  Both the volleyball and basketball teams have an A, B, and C team. If an  athlete is not participating in the sport that is in season, the athlete will stay in athletics and participate in the off-season program which consists of weight lifting, conditioning, and agility training.

7th grade athletics: In season sports will practice before school and into 1st Period. Offseason will be during the athletic period.

8th Grade Athletics: In season sports will practice during 8th Period and after school. Offseason will be during the athletic period.
